Whether you’re working on a residential project, household waste removal or a property clear out W&S can provide the right skip hiring service for you.
It is fundamentally important, however to efficiently load your skip. Not only for keeping you, your family and/or your colleagues safe but to prevent you from overspending on a larger skip, or even getting fined for overfilling your skip. Read on to learn how to cost-effectively and efficiently load your skip.
How do I load my skip efficiently?
The key is to ensure every space in your skip is filled – think of it like a game of tetris. We provide a step-by-step breakdown as to how you can ensure there are no spaces at the bottom of your skip.
Step 1: Organise your items
The key to efficient skip filling is to adopt a layering approach. Different item types will go into the skip at different times. Organising your items this way will make it much easier when it comes to filling the skip.
The items going into your skip should be divided into these four categories:
Flat items, like cardboard and paper
Tessellate objects, such as tiles and bricks
Bulky items, including furniture and appliances
Debris, such as soil and sand
Step 2: Place flat items into your skip
One you have sorted your items, proceed to placing your flat items in the skip. These items include wood, plasterboard and cardboard but do remember to flatten your cardboard boxes before inserting them into the skip.
Step 3: Insert tesselate objects into your skip
Bricks and tiles should be placed in next, in a layering fashion. Fill in as much space as you can with these tessellate items on one layer before moving onto the next.
Step 4: Add large or bulky items
Your large or bulky items should be added next. They should be broken down into smaller parts, again emphasising a space-filling layering approach. Its also worth trying to make use out of the crevices that other items may have created.
Step 5: Embed loose debris
Lastly, loose debris such as gravel, sand and soil should go in the skip. Loose debris should be able to fill all the remaining pockets of space left in your skip that larger items couldn’t fill.
What can and can’t I put in the skip?
