Plastic Recycling

We are a team of plastic recycling specialists based in Dorset, Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas. Oxford customers with a valid waste carriers licence are welcome to deliver loose soft plastic to our waste transfer station in Redbridge. Please note your vehicle must be 3.5 tonne or less and a charge per tonne will be applied.
For more information please call our Redbridge depot on 01865 721464.

Once we have received your recyclable plastics, they are individually sorted, graded and baled ready for onward transportation to re-processors in the UK or overseas. Our team utilise the most forward-thinking methods paired with high quality equipment to ensure that the entire plastic recycling process remains seamless and efficient from beginning to end.

We specialise in the recycling of a range of soft plastics, from plastic bottles and films to polystyrene (EPS). We can also recycle hard rigid plastics and UPVC frames in Dorset. Our experts offer a recycling collection service for plastic film and bottles locally and accept deliveries of polystyrene to our depots in Poole and Oxfordshire.

Is There a Difference Between Hard Plastics and Plastic Bottles?

Yes, there are key differences between hard plastics and plastic bottles that affect how we handle them in our plastic recycling processes.

Plastic bottles are typically made from:

  • PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): Used for drinks bottles
  • HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene): Used for milk jugs and detergent bottles

These are generally thinner, flexible materials designed for single-use packaging.

Hard plastics include:

  • Garden Furniture and Plant Pots
  • Toys and Household Containers
  • Electronic Casings and Automotive Parts
  • Thick Storage Boxes and Crates

Hard plastics are usually thicker, more durable, and made from various polymer types including polypropylene and polystyrene.

The recycling processes differ significantly. Plastic bottles can be easily sorted and processed through standard recycling streams, while hard plastics often require specialised handling due to their mixed compositions and additives.

At W&S Waste Management, we can accept a wide range of plastics, ensuring proper recycling for a range of common household items.
